Stepping Back Into The Dark

This is the first release by American band Glorious Din, and a personal favourite of mine. Eric Cope's vocals do remind me of Ian Curtis, which is rarely a bad thing. The music is well crafted Post-Punk. My LP is in storage, and I have been talking about getting this on my blog for months. Thanks to Jorf for these files. Posted for Kamel, who has pestered me about this to no end.
Eric Cope - Vocals, Barrel
Doug Heeschen - Bass
Paget - Guitar, Vocals
Pete H. - Drums
A second LP called Closely Watched Trains is coming soon to Phoenix Hairpins blog. Recorded in 1987, I hear it has more of an REM sound. There is a VA album from 1984 called Numb Tongue No Taste which has two Glorious Din songs. I do not know if "Water From The Temple" is the version that appears on Leading Stolen Horses, but the other track "Voices Everywhere" may be exclusive to the sampler. If anyone has thes songs or any others, please let me know.
Sacred Bones Records contacted former members and will be including Glorious Din on a new Deathrock compilation. Perhaps the band may decide to reissue its back catalogue.
Leading Stolen Horses LP (1985)
Tracklisting:
A1 Tenement Roofs
A2 Pallet To The Floor
A3 Arrival
A4 Cello Tape
B1 Sixth Pillar
B2 Leading Stolen Horses
B3 Water From The Temple
B4 Insects

It will take a while to post the 2nd album. Found another Glorious Din song on a comp. tape called Final Unsound. It's posted on:

If anyone has thes songs or any others, please let me know.

I have pretty much everything they ever recorded (which is much, much more than they released).

Will post some of it once I get my blog up and running...

Thanks for this. I have the most part of it in a lousy tape and now finaly I can listen to it properly.
Eric Cope put out a 2LP compilation "To Sell Kerosene Door to Door" on Insight recods in 1987 with many bands (from Caroliner to World of Pooh). I don't know if there were any Glorious Din songs in it, but it sure is interesting.

I'm kind of curious what GD tracks anonymous has. There are GD live tapes and one live video in existence as well as many unrealeased studio recordings.

I was in Glorious Din and have some material recorded prior to the 2 albums. Funny, today was the first time I searched for the band on the web.
I'll gladly post other material if I can

JP,
Now who would you be?

Please get in touch via my email. Such amazing music--ANY lost sounds would be most welcomed. As would some history.

I am very excited that so many people from these bands that I have posted have been in contact in one form or another.

Thanks for the shout!

A fellow named Ian emailed to tell me "I actully know Eric and he asked me to send him a copy. If you have any other recordings I'm sure people, myself included, would love to hear them. I've been told the original master tapes were all stolen so all thats left now are the LPs."

JP must be Jay Paget. Jay, where the heck are you? Well, I'm another former GD member. I also have a lot of live material in addition to unreleased studio recordings on cassette tapes.

missb said...

to the persons who were formerly in glorious din, please add me to any contact list when you are able to post these lost recordings and such! that would be so amazing.

I'm in Boston, where are you?

PH said...

Jay, I'm in Portland. Perhaps we could follow up off-line via our blog host. It's been a long time.

Guys, if you need me to relay some email addresses or contact info, email me direct:

The potential for an archive CD release would be a welcome consideration.

Almost a year ago (Sept. 2007) I posted a comment in this same post about Eric Cope's Insight label compilation. And now that I've found it, while preparing my post of it, I came back here for the link of Glorious Din record. To my surprise, I saw that Jay Paget and Peter H, both appearing more than once in "To Sell Kerosene Door To Door" compilation had recently posted some very interesting comments about unreleased stuff of Glorious Din.
Good news, indeed!
If anyone's interested, here's the link to "Kerosene" http://lost-in-tyme.ucoz.com/blog/2008-06-30-245.
I would appreciate if someone could tell me where is Eric Cope now or if he did anything after the Insight days.

Eric's run Murder Dog magazine for the past 10 years. Search for it by name on the web.

Thank you very much Jay
I must admit this is a surprise for me (although, in my search for Eric's traces, I've read something about a "gangster rap mag", but it seemed more rumour than fact). Does this mean that Eric has no connections with the SF/Oakland scene of the 80/90's anymore?

You're welcome. Eric and I have been in contact recently around his compiling material for a GD release. I believe Brandan Kearney may be putting it out.
As far as Eric's connection with folks in the Bay Area and the music scene I'm not sure where he is on that. I do know that he lived in the jungles of Sri Lanka for 2 years recently. You may want to contact him through Murder Dog Magazine. He's really easy to talk to and given his role as a journaist, I think he'd be receptive to queries about his life and connection to music these days. Good Luck!
